Nitrofurantoin
Both short- and long-term use can result in lung injury.
Acute pulmonary injury
- Short-term use
- Delay of 3-9 days from medication initiation to the onset of symptoms.
- Acute hypersensitivity involving the lungs
- Basilar crackles, bilateral & basilar opacities
- Pleural effusions , typically unilateral
- Erythematous, maculopapular rash
- Leukocytosis, eosinophilia
- Cessation of the drug
- Typically leads to symptomatic improvement within 1-2 days.
Interstitial lung disease
- Long-term use
Amiodarone
