Diagnosis
Skin biopsy
Incisional (partial) biopsy
- may be performed for certain lesions (eg, on the face/digits/that are large in size)
- If the full thickness of the lesion is not captured on biopsy, accurate melanoma staging may not be possible.
Full thickness exicional biopsy: preferred for all suspicious lesions
- should include:
- The full depth of the lesion
- 1-3 mm surgical margins
Elliptical excision with 1-cm margins
- Not recommended as the initial diagnostic test.
Management

Treatment Techniques
Primary lesion
Cranial nerve tracking
Widefield RT skin protocol
- 45Gy field dose, with 55-60 Gy SIB
- Lymphatic “sparing strips” incorporated(?)
